The Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office (JCPD) prohibits commercial marketing of visitor and client information and the disclosure of personal information without prior consent of the visitor/client. Your personally identifying information will not be obtained when you visit our site, except in cases where you have chosen to provide this information (such as with the client contact form). JCPD will only use your information to respond in an appropriate fashion and when providing representation.

All clients of the JCPD are in a client-lawyer relationship as set forth in the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct and the JCPD, and its attorneys and staff, are subject to the confidentiality of information as set forth in Ala. R. Prof’l. Cond. 1.6.

Websites developed by the State of Alabama may use cookies to carry user information from one page to another. An example is a search criterion. This information is not stored – nor tracked – on a JCPD server, but on your workstation. The cookies JCPD uses are set to expire at the end of your browsing session. This means they are deleted when you close your browser.

JCPD servers may track statistical information through the use of server logs and statistical software to help agencies hosted on our servers analyze and monitor the use of their sites.

We may automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit to our website:

  • The name of the domain from which you access the Internet
  • The date and time you accessed our site
  • The Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site

The information collected is used to measure the number of visitors to the different areas of JCPD’s website and to assist in making our site more helpful and user friendly.

The Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office uses the WebEx phone system. The WebEx text messaging feature can be used for client communication between staff and clients. The Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office will not share a client’s opt-in to SMS messages with any third party for purposes unrelated to representation of that client. Personal data may be shared with third parties only to the extent that they help provide our messaging services, including but not limited to platform providers, phone companies, and any vendors who assist in the delivery of text messages.
